Children learn well through exploration and experience, which is why it's important to give children the opportunity to engage in sensory play in the classroom. The Sand Water Learning Centre is one of the best ways you can provide your child with a sensory play experience, as children can explore the properties and uses of sand and water as they touch, dig, scoop and play. The Sand and Water Learning Center also encourages creativity, helps children develop social interactions, and gives them the opportunity to learn new math and science skills.

Setting up a sand water play center that suits your space can be a long process, but we've come up with a few simple steps to help you organize a sand water area that provides great learning opportunities for kids you care about:

When determining the size and location of sand and water centers, you need to consider the following factors:

• The overall size of the room.
• The total number of learning centers you want to merge.
• The number of children in your classroom.
• The number of children you wish to use at one time.
• The size of the sand and water table and the number of accessories to be included in the center.

Keep in mind that the Learning Center should accommodate 3-4 children at a time, but if you have a smaller workspace, you can accommodate two children.

If possible, you should try to bring your sand and water center close to the sink. Being close to the sink will help fill the table with water or clean up anything messy. Noise levels in the sand and water centres may vary depending on the activity and use of the children at the centre. Try placing your sand and water center near other centers with different noise levels, such as math and operations centers and nature and science centers. If you have tiled floors in one area of your classroom, you might also consider setting up a sand center in that area to make it easier to clean up and avoid damaging any carpets in the room.
